Vanuatu accommodation outside of the main town of Port Vila is rather limited with only a handful of boutique resorts around the islands although there are plenty of small family run guesthouses usually with simple rooms or huts and shared bathrooms.

Port Vila is the capital of Vanuatu with the international airport and the majority of the county's holiday resorts. These include several large brand hotels, some with casinos, as well as small boutique resorts along the shores of Erakor Lagoon. Port Vila also has a good choice of budget hotels and apartments for long stays or business travellers.

Vanuatu is not very well set up as a family holiday destination although there are a couple of resorts around Erakor Lagoon just outside of Port Vila which make good choices for families.

Vanuatu is a non-commercial South Pacific holiday destination with only a handful of beach resorts around the country - the majority being on the main island of Efate and close to the capital city of Port Vila.

A couple of island resorts can be found around Vanuatu - two in and around Port Vila and a couple on the largest island of Espiritu Santo which attracts scuba divers and honeymooners looking for a secluded retreat.

Most accommodation in Vanuatu (apart frpom the hotels in Port Vila) offer beach bungalows, some using traditional design with high ceilings and thatch roofs, others being wooden A-frame structures with large louvre windows designed for maximum air flow to keep down the tropical heat.

Vanuatu is a fantastic eco destination with a rich and traditional culture as well as some outstanding natural environments. Tanna Island boasts the world's most accessable volcano as well as accessable cultural villages and most accommodation is in tribal style huts operated by local villages. Pentecost is famous for its land divers and accommodation packages inluding village stays are available to witness the event from April to June.

There are only a couple of guesthouses around the islands, with most locally operated accommodation being tyribal huts in village environments. There are a couple of good guesthouses in the northern town of Luganville on Espiritu Santo which is a good base for scuba divers and hikers.

Backpackers in Vanuatu are rather limited - there are a couple of budget hotels in Port Vila which attract the backpacker market and several cheap motels in Luganville aimed at budget scuba divers. Otherwise, local beach bungalows can be found in secluded environments on both Tanna Island and Espiritu Santo.
